How feedback works

  • Payment can be made via PayPal or secure bank transfer.

  • We can provide feedback on short stories, flash fiction, and creative non-fiction. With the exception of poetry, there is no limit on the number of separate pieces that can be submitted at once, so long as the total length is within the word count.

  • We can also provide feedback on novel excerpts - however, if this is the case, please also send a short summary of no more than 500 words that gives context for the excerpt you would like to have reviewed. The summary does not count towards the total word count, and will not receive feedback.

  • Feedback can be redeemed within 12 months of your purchase date. Instructions on how to send work for feedback will be emailed after purchase.

  • You will be able to specify up to two areas where you’d like our feedback to focus, although this is optional. If you do specify, please be aware that while our editors will read with these points in mind, they may not be able to address them in full.

  • We aim to get all feedback sent within six weeks of receiving your work. If there's any delay, we'll let you know!

  • Prices are calculated depending on the length of your writing (or the number of poems submitted) so please don’t send work longer than your purchased amount! If longer pieces are sent, we will only be able to provide feedback on the number of words you have paid for.

  • Feedback provided will focus on narrative elements including feel, rhythm, pacing, and tone - so please don't expect in-depth notes on grammar! While every piece is different, most feedback will consist of in-text notes, questions and comments, as well as a short high-level review.

  • We aim to provide valuable, usable feedback, so please be aware that you may receive constructive criticism as part of the service.

  • Flashlit reserves the right to refuse editorial services on work that is highly explicit, exploitative or offensive - including but not limited to homophobic, racist, transphobic, or ableist content.

  • All submitted work will remain fully private, and won't be shared, used in any way by Flashlit or any of our editing team, or stored once feedback is complete.
