About Flashlit

Sometimes it's hard to make the time to write. Other times, it's hard to overcome the voice in your head that tells you there are more important things to do, or that you're not good enough.

Flashlit was started to provide a resource for any time that writing feels daunting - to remind you that writing is worthwhile and you're not alone.

It's also about coming up with ideas. There are some fabulous resources out there that focus on the craft of writing - but at Flashlit, we're all about the initial spark (though we do a bit of editing stuff, too).

This makes us a good fit for flash fiction, microfiction and poetry - but it doesn't matter if you're a novelist, non-fiction writer or completely new to writing... everyone is welcome.

Flashlit was founded by Miranda Overett, who found her voice in flash fiction.

By day, she works in marketing and keeps (very) busy with the wonderful, exhausting business of being mum to a toddler and two smooshy dogs - but in the quiet moments she also writes, and spends an inordinate amount of time thinking about writing.

A seasoned copyeditor for creative writing of all kinds, Miranda also has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Kingston, London. Her story 'Pineapples' placed second in the Bridport Prize for Flash Fiction 2021, and she's been longlisted for the Bath Flash Fiction Award and the Retreat West Prize for Flash Fiction, as well as commended for the Crabbe Poetry Competition. Other writing has been published in Paragraph Planet, The Mark Literary Review, Huffington Post and Lamplit Underground, among others.
